Design Green is an exhibition and design talk which focuses on promoting the thought on sustainable design. This platform was conducted by Prof. Jason Pomeroy, Pomeroy Studio. This event was held at Raffles Design Institute located at 51 Merchant Road, Singapore. The event also showcased the launch of Professor Jason Pomeroy new book coming out on the 30th of May.
Firstly, the design talk caught my attention when the topic of global warming was addressed. Professor Jason Pomeroy referred to what he focused on when it comes to designing which is to help the environment by creating sustainable designs. He mention the fact of population growth at a rapid speed and is something which all designers should find their solution

toward this problem. The talked focused on the launch of his upcoming book “POG: Pod Off-Grid – Explorations into Low Energy Waterborne Communities”. My personal perspective towards this book is that it depicted interesting information about case studies on the rapid urbanization, solutions about city densification, pollution and climate change. This book can help young designers like myself to understand more towards zero-energy consumption and the density of the city with the urbanization. Professor Jason Pomeroy’s talk taught me to consider more on sustainable design due to the global warming and problem towards over energy consumption – learning how to reduce energy usage as much as possible.
Other than the design talk, there was an exhibition that is held at the gallery to showcase more information of “POG: Pod Off-Grid” so people could read and have an idea of what the book is about. There were 2 models that was on display which were the Lexis Hibiscus Resort model and the low-energy Waterborne Communities. I found the design of the 2 models really fascinating on the construction of the infrastructure floating on water.

Overall, this design talk and exhibition had such a big impact on me because myself personally, had always wanted to design something which could help save the environment and have inspired me in every way. Whereas for the book launch, the content has caught my full attention to the point where I preordered the book but one downside to the book was that it doesn’t depict the technology or the construction of the floating design. Other than this, the event has also opened my eyes and showed me that the possibility of design is endless and it just how far can you take it.
