Fifty Years of Singapore Design is an ongoing exhibition depicting how far Singapore design has developed in the past 50 years. The timeline of the design start from the year 1965 until 2015. This was such an amazing event which is held at National Design Centre. I was really excited for this event because as a young interior designer, it is important to understand how design has develop from the origin till the modern day.

As soon you walk inside the exhibition there are a variety of films and movie posters displaying. At first I did not understand the meaning of them but as I stood there reading the posters I understand more about the movie industry of Singapore. The exhibition has a variety of design category displaying from interior design to architecture, movies and films, fashion designs, graphic design and even the story behind their traditional clothing. This event taught me so much about Singapore and showed me what make Singapore today. I was really interested with the information that they wrote next to each images for the architect inspiration and interior design. There were images and videos showcasing architectural building of Singapore in the earlier days. Besides having photos, there were mannequins with Singapore’s traditional fashion clothing dated back in the 1990s. There was a part where they showed the story behind the Merlion which got my attention to read the whole story behind it. I was really fascinated with how far Singapore design has gotten since 1965 till 2015

I really learnt a lot from this exhibition especially the traditional side of Singapore origin in design. I was really amazed on how far of architect building has develop in the past 50 years. I am looking forward to design how else Singapore design will change in the near future to come.
